Foxconn, Mozilla Team up to Launch Firefox OS Devices
June 07, 2013

Major electronic contract manufacturer Foxconn signed a MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with Mozilla to collaboratively develop a series of devices based on Mozilla's Firefox OS (Operating System) open platform, ranging from Smartphones, tablets, TVs, and outdoor signage, as reported by Taiwan's United Daily News on June 3. Firefox, which boasts a 20 percent market share, ranks second in the worldwide Web browser market, after Microsoft's Internet Explorer. Currently, over 18 major telecom operators worldwide have jumped on the bandwagon to provide Firefox OS-based devices, including China Unicom, Deutsche Telekom AG, Hutchison's 3 Group, and Singapore Telecommunications. It is expected that Foxconn will debut the first devices as early as this summer, with a number of other devices to come by the end of 2013.
